Boids FishTank : Real-Time Predator–Prey Simulation with Multi-Role Boids

Project type

Simulation (Unity3D)

Date

December 2025

This project is a real-time predator–prey simulation built on an extended Boids system in Unity HDRP.
Tuna agents school together using classic flocking rules, while Orca predators use role-based bahaviors (Leader, Flanker, Striker, Support) to coordinate their hunt.

• Core Simulation
Describe tuna boids: separation, alignment, cohesion, obstacle avoidance, boundary steering, predator panic response.

• Predator AI
Describe orca roles and hunting strategy: leaders pursue, flankers encircle, strikers dash, supports corral.

• Performance Approach
Highlight spatial hashing, Jobs/Burst path, and avoiding brute-force neighbor checks.

• Runtime BehaviorTuning UI
Explain F1/F2 panels, normalized weights, unit-aware sliders, paired controls, save/load.

• Debugging and Iteration
Mention force visualization, grid debug, neighbor counts, role labels, camera tools.

• Technical Challenges
‣ balancing emergent behavior without making fish jittery
‣ tuning predator response so tuna flee naturally
‣ keeping orca hunting coordinated without over-controlling them
‣ preserving performance with many agents
‣ making runtime UI understandable for non-code tuning
